Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian DVD Review

Tuesday, December 1, 2009

Having not seen the first Night at the Museum movie, I wasn't sure what to expect. I am a fan of Ben Stiller and Amy Adams {as well as many of the other actors in this film}, so I figured it couldn't be a horrible movie. ;) After Mat and I got Charlie settled for the night we sat down to watch it. My initial thought was that we probably should have seen the first one to have a better understanding of just who Larry Daley is {played by Stiller} and why he was no longer working as a night guard. Thankfully, the storyline was forgiving in that regard and we were able to still enjoy the plot without feeling clueless the whole time.

An imaginative story unfolds, where museum displays and artwork come to life at night.  Larry's old museum friends call upon him for help after discovering an old Egyptian Pharaoh is planning on ruling the museum, and tries everything in his power to do so. Larry steps up to the plate, making for an unforgettable night at the museum. A good old fashioned good guys vs. bad guys story. Hilarious moments, mixed with enjoyable tame fight scenes {rated PG afterall}, even a twist of romance with Emelia Earheart {played by Adams}. We rather enjoyed this movie, I was pleasantly surprised with how well this sequel played out. Normally we're a little leery of sequels, they tend to be a let down and not as magical as the first. Now I want to back track and see the first movie!

Grab both first movie and a copy of Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, add in some a holiday tin of popcorn and some candy for a great gift basket idea! And DVDs make for great stocking stuffers or door prizes at holiday parties too! Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian hit store shelves today - So you'd better get on it!

The limited edition double DVD set called Monkey Mischief has a second dvd with even more bonus material. Commentary from the cast/crew, deleted scenes, alternate ending, gag reel {love those!} and more. This holiday 2- pack DVD has a suggest price of $34.98 in the US.

The single disc Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian DVD has an hour full of commentary, featurettes, a gag reel, deleted scenes, and an alternate ending. Suggested to sell for $29.98. It is also available in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack.

I can't wait to see this movie... I really liked the first one, because it was so funny. Bill doesn't like comedies, but I do, so I have to wait until they come on DVD.
Thanks for a great review.
